Gentle Births Happen at Home

The Birth of Ella

After my first labor and delivery at the hospital, which wasn’t as calm and relaxed and stress-free as I’d imagined or hoped, I wanted a better experience.  This time I was more confident and sure of being able to have the experience I’d wanted the first time.  I wasn't disappointed.  I started having some mild, sporadic contractions two days before the birth.  I went to the chiropractor the day before and got aligned.  On the day of the birth, I had the feeling this was it, but was in denial because we’d wanted to give birth in our new house, which wouldn’t be ready to move into for a few more days.  I had contractions 15-30 minutes apart all morning and early late afternoon which were minor in severity.  In the late afternoon the contractions got stronger and 10 minutes apart.  After dinner they were still 7-10 minutes apart but more intense.  Sometime between 8:30 and 9pm my water broke.  I felt a strong urge to push and the baby’s head started to come.  Heather and Stephen helped me into the birthing pool and at 9:28 pm the baby was born.  I felt in control during delivery and much more comfortable in the water.  Everything went perfectly.  I was calm and able to enjoy the baby and the experience after the birth.  I only tore a little and regained my strength back much more quickly than the first time.  I couldn’t be more pleased with how everything turned out.  I will never look back to giving birth at a hospital again.
