The Birth of Tyler Scott |

Mother—When my midwife told me I was dilated to a 9, I was completely stunned. I couldn’t believe labor could be so “easy” compared to my previous births. I had read books about how birth didn’t have to be a horribly painful experience and when I was told I was a 9, I realized it was really true because it wasn’t this ”I am in so much pain I think I’m going to die” experience I had had before. Being left alone and able to do whatever I wanted made such a huge difference. I didn’t like pushing, but being talked through it helped, and then WOW! It was so awesome to hold that little head in my hands. That moment is etched in my mind. It was so cool. And then he was here and looking around and not terrified or being mauled and manhandled and my whole family was there to welcome him. It was all very peaceful and beautiful. I haven’t been able to say this after my other births, I hope I get to do it again. Father—Like many, I was a little apprehensive about having a home birth. Other people’s comments to me were all the same, “scary!” It was just the opposite. There was a feeling of peace the whole time. I felt that care for the baby and mother were the top priority with the midwives. They helped make it a wonderful experience. |
